Riverside Chalet
This delightful riverside chalet will be a tasteful addition to the Yare-side landscape in the Broadland Village of Brundall. The client had a smaller chalet on the same development, but now requires a slightly more substantial property to host friends and family. We secured Planning Permission for the scheme in 2019 with the project to start on site during the first half of 2020. Poor ground conditions require a piled foundation to be put in place first, with the new modern superstructure assembled on site from panelised timber frame. This is another example of a project where our enhanced 3D design package was brought to bear, to allow the Planners and Client to fully appreciate the quality of the design.
Other challenges to the project included flood risks, with the chalet being literally on the riverbank. Raising the whole property up out of the flood zone was not possible for planning and disabled access reasons, so thisis issue was dealt with by raising the bedrooms above predicted flood levels to provide a safe refuge, and incorporating flood resilient design into the rest of the chalet to minimise repair works, should the property be flooded in the future.
